About UsMultnomah Dental Society is dedicated to advancing the dental profession and promoting the highest standard of oral health and oral healthcare. Established in June 1912, the Oregon State Dental Association created district dental societies as components of the state organization. The Portland Dental Society was the first in the state to be organized and as such changed its name to the Portland District Dental Society on November 5, 1912. On May 15, 1962 the name was changed to the Multnomah County Dental Society and in 1964 MCDS was incorporated. In 1986 the word "county" was dropped from the official name. It is a voluntary membership organization for Multnomah County dentists. We provide continuing education, advocacy and other services for dentists and public information to promote good dental health. The American Dental Association (ADA), based in Chicago, and the Oregon Dental Association (ODA), are MDS' parent organizations. Both the ADA and ODA provides research, public information and continuing education programs. The ADA represents dentistry through national legislative and regulatory efforts. The ODA represents dentistry through state legislative and regulatory efforts. All three organizations (ADA, ODA, MDS) provide patient education materials on preventive care and dental health.
